OpenAI has launched GPT-6 Astra, a frontier AI model designed for complex professional tasks including software engineering, science, and cybersecurity. The model is being rolled out to select organizations before expanding to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users, as well as developers via the OpenAI API, Microsoft Azure, and Amazon Bedrock. API pricing is set at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens.
Astra is the first OpenAI system to reach the Critical cybersecurity capability threshold under its Preparedness Framework. The model can independently discover unknown vulnerabilities and develop exploitation methods for hardened systems. To manage these risks, OpenAI has implemented encrypted checkpoints, expanded trajectory monitoring, and tighter internal isolation.

The system is 10 times faster than GPT-Transcribe and five times faster than Gemini 3.5 Transcribe. Microsoft has set an introductory price of $0.10 per audio hour through the end of 2026, a 72 percent decrease from the $0.36 per hour charged for the previous version five months ago.
