Microsoft is experiencing a surge in security patches due to AI models like Anthropic's Mythos and OpenAI's cybersecurity-focused model. While the company typically patches around 100 flaws monthly, June saw around 200 fixes, July had at least 570, and August nearly 400. The September update is expected to set a new record with over 650 security fixes for Windows alone.
The increased volume of vulnerabilities discovered by AI is putting pressure on businesses to close the 'patch gap'—the time between disclosure and application. Anthropic's Mythos model can create working exploits for new vulnerabilities in a matter of hours, significantly increasing the risk for companies that delay updates.
In financial reporting, Microsoft is splitting its business into two segments: 'Devices and Consumer' (search, ads, Xbox, Windows, Surface) and 'Agents and Infra' (Azure, Microsoft 365, server products). For the first time, the company will disclose quarterly revenue for its Azure cloud business.
Gaming updates include a delay of Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 to early 2027 to align with the first expansion. Xbox Cloud Gaming is introducing a pay-as-you-go option in November, while reducing monthly hours for subscribers: 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 for Premium, and 5 for Essential.
Hardware news features the launch of Lenovo's IdeaPad Vibe in 14- and 15-inch sizes with AMD or Qualcomm chips in seven colors. Nvidia's Arm-based RTX Spark chips will debut in October in two configurations: a 6144-core GPU with up to 128GB unified memory, and a 5120-core GPU with 24GB to 32GB unified memory.
For developers, Microsoft introduced Project Zenith, a distraction-free Windows experience paired with devices featuring 64GB or more of unified memory. Additionally, the company is disabling text predictions in Word and Outlook by default across Windows, iOS, Android, and Mac.
