Agility Robotics has unveiled the Digit 5, a new humanoid robot designed with advanced safety features for human-centric environments. The machine utilizes AI algorithms and vision-based sensors to detect people, allowing it to autonomously stop, move aside, or squat to maintain safe distances. The system integrates NVIDIA Thor IGX hardware and the NVIDIA Halos for Robotics software stack to manage safety protocols.
The robot features an upgraded leg design capable of lifting loads up to 50 pounds, meeting US Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards for single-person tasks. Its battery supports 90 minutes of operation and recharges in nine minutes, enabling over 20 hours of work per day. Digit 5 stands 5 feet 11 inches tall and can reach heights of 7.2 feet, surpassing the 5.5-foot reach of its predecessor.
Agility is retooling its RoboFab facility in Salem, Oregon, for production. Early access for customers is scheduled for the first half of 2027, with general availability expected by the end of that year. The company is also contributing to the development of the ISO 25785-1 international safety standard for industrial mobile robots.
Previous versions of the Digit robot have logged over 65,000 hours in commercial operations since 2024. Clients including GXO, Schaeffler, Amazon, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada have piloted or deployed the technology. The new model also introduces swappable grippers to handle a broader range of manipulation tasks beyond standard warehouse logistics.
