Agility Robotics has unveiled the Digit 5, a humanoid robot designed for safe operation alongside human workers. The machine features advanced sensors and AI algorithms to detect people, allowing it to move aside, pause, or crouch when a human is nearby. This design eliminates the need for isolated work zones or physical barriers in warehouses and factories.
The robot is powered by the Nvidia Thor IGX platform and utilizes the Nvidia Halos for Robotics software stack for safety functions. Agility Robotics contributed to the development of the ISO 25785-1 international safety standard for industrial mobile robots. The company is currently retooling its Salem, Oregon facility to prepare for mass production.
Digit 5 stands 180.3 cm tall and can lift loads weighing up to 22.7 kg, with a reach of up to 219.5 cm. Its battery provides 90 minutes of operation and fully recharges in 9 minutes, enabling the robot to work over 20 hours per day. The design includes swappable hands for diverse manipulation tasks, such as palletizing goods.
The first units are scheduled for delivery to initial customers in the first half of 2027, with a broader commercial release planned for late 2027. Previous iterations of Agility robots have logged over 65,000 hours of operation at sites for companies including GXO, Schaeffler, Amazon, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada.
