Acura has confirmed plans to discontinue the 2026 MDX Type S model in the United States. The decision is driven by new emissions regulations, specifically the Tier 4 standards for light and medium-duty vehicles established by the Environmental Protection Agency in 2024.

The Tier 4 standards, which take effect for 2027 model year vehicles, impose complex emissions certification requirements and stricter onboard diagnostic software mandates for low-volume vehicles. Acura stated that it is awaiting further regulatory updates and has not provided a timeline for resuming production.

The MDX Type S is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine delivering 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. The vehicle features a 10-speed automatic transmission, SH-AWD system, adaptive air suspension, and Brembo brakes. Its fuel consumption is rated at 19 miles per gallon.

Acura representatives indicated that the brand may integrate certain premium features and sporty design elements from the Type S trim into other models in its lineup. The company opted to halt production of the low-volume SUV while it monitors the evolving regulatory landscape.
