The Ethereum Layer 2 network Abstract will cease operations on December 15, 2026. The project, backed by Igloo Inc., the parent company behind the Pudgy Penguins NFT collection, failed to achieve product-market fit despite two years of development and tens of millions of dollars in investment.
Company leadership cited a non-viable business model as the primary reason for the shutdown. The network struggled with low liquidity, limited DeFi ecosystem growth, and a lack of institutional interest. These challenges persisted even with a user base of 400,000, 144 active applications, and partnerships with brands like Disney and Red Bull Racing.
Users are required to withdraw their assets by the December 15, 2026 deadline using the Migration Hub or the official bridge. After this date, access to remaining funds will be permanently disabled. The development team has committed to assisting third-party projects with the migration of their applications to other networks.
