Abstract, a blockchain platform for consumer crypto applications, will cease operations on December 15, 2026, after nearly three years of activity. The project team cited a lack of product-market fit, limited liquidity, and a restrictive DeFi ecosystem as primary reasons for the shutdown. According to RootData, 347 crypto projects have closed or suspended operations during 2026.
Igloo Inc., the parent company behind Pudgy Penguins, had been funding Abstract for 18 months. CEO Luca Netz reported that the company lost tens of millions of dollars over two years trying to scale the chain. Igloo considered launching a token or an ICO but ultimately decided against these options, choosing instead to focus resources on the Pudgy Penguins brand and the PENGU token.
Following the announcement, the floor price for Pudgy Penguins NFTs rose from approximately 3.07 ETH to 3.37 ETH, with daily volume reaching 237 ETH. Conversely, the PENGU token price fell by 4.17% to $0.00917. The token is currently trading roughly 87% below its all-time high of $0.06845, which was recorded on December 17, 2024.
Users of the Abstract blockchain must bridge their assets off the network before the December 15 deadline to avoid losing access to their funds. Igloo Inc. has stated that it will now concentrate its efforts on developing Pudgy Penguins into a global cultural phenomenon, though specific details regarding the company's future operational strategy remain undisclosed.
