Aave Labs has introduced a proposal for the Aave V3.8 upgrade, which aims to implement a reentrancy guard for Pool accounting. The initiative is designed as a proactive security measure rather than a response to an existing exploit.
The proposed mechanism utilizes EIP-1153, an Ethereum standard for transient storage, to maintain accounting consistency during multi-step transactions. By using transient storage, the protocol intends to minimize gas costs while ensuring the system remains robust.
The upgrade is intended to cover 16 active Aave V3 instances, including those on Ethereum, Avalanche, BNB, and Polygon. Aave Labs describes the release as minor and non-invasive, with no changes planned for core lending or borrowing functionality.
The proposal is currently in the ARFC (Aave Request for Final Comment) stage on the governance forum. Before implementation, the plan requires community feedback, security audits, and a formal AIP (Aave Improvement Proposal) vote by token holders.
