Tech outlet Wccftech reported that the A20 Pro chip in the iPhone 18 Pro Max demonstrates gaming performance exceeding Apple's official claims. While Apple stated that the new GPU offers a 40% performance increase over the A19 Pro, independent testing shows higher gains in specific titles.

YouTube channel Dame Tech compared the iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro Max using Resident Evil 4 Remake and Assassin's Creed Shadows. In Resident Evil 4, the A20 Pro achieved an average frame rate of 58 FPS, compared to 38.6 FPS on the A19 Pro. This represents a 50.3% increase in average frame rates.

The testing also highlighted a 77.3% improvement in 1% Low frame rates for the A20 Pro in Resident Evil 4. However, results for Assassin's Creed Shadows were constrained by a 30 FPS cap inherent to the game. Under these conditions, the A20 Pro still outperformed the previous generation by 18.6% in average frame rates.

Apple's official marketing for the A20 Pro chip specifies a 7-core GPU architecture. Despite the company's conservative 40% performance growth estimate, third-party benchmarks suggest that real-world gaming performance in demanding AAA titles can significantly surpass these figures.
